How to use Henna Powder?
Aayogi Ayurveda Henna powder is a popular natural hair dye and conditioner known for its multiple benefits. Here's how you can use henna powder for hair.
Step 1: Prepare the Henna Paste
- Mix the Henna Powder:
- Mix the henna powder with lukewarm water (or tea/coffee for a darker color) in a non-metallic bowl, stirring until it forms a smooth paste, similar to yogurt consistency.
- Add Ingredients (Optional):
-
For richer color: Add a little lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, or yogurt to help the henna release its dye better.
-
For conditioning: You can add coconut oil, olive oil, or yogurt to enhance the conditioning properties.
- Cover the bowl and let the paste sit for at least 2-4 hours (or overnight) to allow the dye to release fully.
Step 2: Apply the Henna Paste
- Use the mild shampoo for the main washing. This will wash away all the oil, dirt, and residue that might be present on your hair. You should not be dripping wet, but it must be damp when applying the henna.
- Wear gloves while rubbing henna so you don't have to stain your hands. Have a worn-out towel draped around your neck so your clothes will not get stained by henna.
- Divide your hair into sections to achieve better application.
- After the application, pile your hair on top of your head and cover it with a shower cap or plastic wrap.
- Leave the henna on your hair for 2-4 hours for light to medium color results, or up to 6 hours for deeper color.
Step 3: Rinsing
- Rinse out the Henna with plain water. Wait at least 48 hours before getting your hair shampooed because this sets the color, allowing it to deepen.
Step 6: Maintenance
- Color usually lasts between 3 and 5 weeks depending on how often you get your hair washed, the condition of your hair, and you can also have the roots filled in as needed.
Steps to Use Henna Powder for Black hair:
After completing the process of applying henna, use this step for indigo.
Step 1: Wash Your Hair
- Before applying the Indigo powder, wash your hair with a gentle shampoo removing dirt, oil, or product buildup from your strands. No conditioner is to be applied on account of it making the dye reluctant to bind to the hair.
- Towel dry your hair so that it’s slightly damp, but not dripping wet.
Step 2: Prepare the Indigo Paste
- Mix twell Indigo powder with warm water in a bowl to make a smooth paste resembling yogurt.
- Let the Indigo paste alone for 10-15 minutes so that the dye seeps into it.
- If you want the intensity of the dye to be enhanced and more durable, add a pinch of salt.
Step 3: Application
- Divide your hair into sections to achieve better application.
- Put on your gloves, and then apply the indigo paste to your hair from roots to tips. Ensure that the indigo covers your hair evenly for uniform color coverage.
- After your hair is entirely covered, take a bun of it and place it under a shower cap or plastic wrap to keep the dye moist and enhance its coloring effect.
Step 4: Waiting Time
- Leave the indigo on for 1-2 hours for a dark brown result, or 3-4 hours for a black color.
- The longer you leave the indigo on, the deeper the color will be.
Step 5: Rinse
- Rinse your hair thoroughly with plain water. No shampoo till the running water is clear. Do not shampoo for the next 48 hours to seal in the color.
Important Tips:
-
Patch Test: Always do a patch test before using indigo powder to check for any allergic reactions.
-
Storage: Store Henna powder in a cool, dry place to retain its potency.
-
Frequency: Indigo color can last for 3-5 weeks, and you can reapply as needed to maintain the color.
Summary of Results:
-
For Black Hair: Achieved through a two-step henna and indigo process.
-
For Dark Brown Hair: Indigo alone or mixed with henna provides dark brown results.
-
Conditioned and Healthy Hair: Both henna and indigo have conditioning properties, leaving your hair shinier, thicker, and more manageable.
